About me | ||||||||
ExperienceThe projects I’ve worked on have been varied — medical, nursing, trade, and scholarly books; reference books and encyclopedias; books of regional interest; fiction, nonfiction, and poetry; series; textbooks; and government publications.
With a strong background in instructional design, printing, and publishing, I have the experience to provide the publishing support services you need.
In the early 1980s, as a member of a design team (and ultimately as senior designer) at NTS Research Corporation in Durham, NC, I developed instructional media, visual aids, and printed matter. I also wrote, proofread, and edited copy.
During the mid-1980s, I learned the technical aspects of typesetting, printing, stripping negatives, and platemaking at Moger Graphics in Milford, CT.
From the mid-1980s until 1990, I was a book designer and art director in the publishing industry — first at Chelsea House Publishers in New Haven, CT, and then at J.B. Lippincott in Philadelphia.
I maintained a healthy freelance design career while working in publishing houses, and I’ve been self-employed full-time since 1990 as sole proprietor of my own design business. I use QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator software for design and Microsoft Word for word processing, but I am also acquainted with other programs.
My undergraduate degree is from Towson State University (B.A., summa cum laude) with majors in English and fine arts. While there, I tutored grammar in the university’s study skills center.
My graduate degree is from Yale University (M.Div., cum laude).
