Concept:
While designing a trade book discussing the hereditary component of certain diseases that occur within families, I thought that the subject matter called for an appropriate illustration, yet not one that looked like a technical drawing. My interpretation of a double helix began with a pencil sketch on paper, which I scanned and altered digitally, resulting in the image you see here.
